Campsite Tested
Dan Mercer

Hi, I'm Dan!

I'm Dan. I spent 30 years as an RV service technician, which means I've crawled under, climbed on, and fixed just about every rig on the road. These days I'm the guy my camping friends call before buying anything for their rigs. My wife Lisa and I live in ours most of the year. Everything on this site gets tested the only way that counts: at an actual campsite, over real nights, not in a showroom.

The Best RV Mattresses of 2026

Updated 20264 mattresses · 4 weeks on the road

You sleep on your RV mattress every night of the trip, so I took this comparison seriously. Lisa and I tried four popular options in the same rig, one week each. Here's how they ranked:

How I tested them

  1. Picked the mattresses. The four names on our shortlist: Moose RV Treeline Deep Comfort, CopperFlex RV Hybrid, Wilderness RV Mattress Aspen, and Mattress Insider Scarsdale.
  2. One week each. Same RV, same bed platform, same sheets and pillows. Lisa and I each had a say, because a mattress has to work for both of us.
  3. Kept a morning log. Comfort, support, how warm we felt, and whether either of us noticed the other turning over. The little things you forget by lunchtime.
  4. Checked the practical stuff. Platform fit, clearance, and what it was like to sit on the edge while getting dressed.
  5. Rated each one 1–5. Then added up the points to choose a favorite.

What mattered to me in an RV mattress

Comfort. We're out there to enjoy the trip, not count the hours until morning. I wanted a surface that felt welcoming on my side without making me feel swallowed up. Lisa wanted the same thing, with a little more support.

Support. Years of working on rigs taught me that the platform matters. So does what goes on top of it. I paid attention to how the bed felt after settling in, not just after pressing a hand into the showroom sample.

The feel test. Lisa and I compared notes instead of letting one of us choose for both.

Sleeping temperature. An RV bedroom can get warm even when the evening outside is lovely. The question wasn't whether the cover had a clever name. It was whether we felt comfortable once the lights were out.

RV fit & everyday use. I measured the platform, checked the corners, and looked at the clearance. Then I did the glamorous test: sitting on the edge to pull my socks on. That's real RV life.

Partner movement. Here's the honest one. Lisa is a light sleeper, and I don't stay in one position all night. I wanted a mattress that didn't turn every roll-over into a conversation at two in the morning.

The Best RV Mattress I tried:

Best Overall
Moose RV Treeline Deep Comfort

Moose RV Treeline Deep Comfort

Pros

  • ✓ The most comfortable feel of the four I tried
  • ✓ Cushioning without that stuck-in-the-bed feeling
  • ✓ Support that Lisa and I both liked
  • ✓ Less disturbance when one of us turned over
  • ✓ Made the RV bedroom feel like a place to unwind

Cons

  • ✗ Not available on Amazon

⭐ Overall Rating

The one I'd keep in our RV. What won me over wasn't a fancy list of layers. It was the balance: enough cushioning to make lying on my side comfortable, with enough support that I didn't feel like I was climbing out of a hole in the morning. Lisa and I rarely agree on a mattress. Treeline was the exception.

❤️ What I love

The first thing I noticed was the surface feel. Comfortable straight away, but not so soft that I disappeared into it. Then there was the partner test. I'm the one who rolls over; Lisa is the one who notices. A mattress that lets both of us settle down without negotiating whose side is better is worth paying attention to. Treeline made the bed feel less like RV equipment and more like our bed at home.

🙈 What could be better

My only gripe is a small shopping convenience: you have to hop over to Moose's website to check current pricing. One extra tab—not something about the mattress itself.

Bottom Line: My pick for the couple who loves their RV but doesn't love the bed that came with it. Treeline is the comfort-first choice in my comparison.

CopperFlex RV Hybrid

CopperFlex RV Hybrid

4.3 / 5
Check Price

Pros

  • ✓ Cooling top construction
  • ✓ Multiple heights and RV size options
  • ✓ A support-focused alternative
  • ✓ Worth a look if you prefer a hybrid feel

Cons

  • ✗ Check the height before comparing options- some are too tall for certain RV beds
  • ✗ A bit Stiffer than most other beds I tried
  • ✗ More configurations to sort through, that doesn't feel like they're that different

⭐ Overall Rating

The runner-up in my comparison. CopperFlex is the option I'd put beside Treeline if I wanted to compare a foam-and-coil feel. There's a lot to like about having several heights to choose from, especially when your RV has tight clearances. I leaned toward Treeline's more inviting surface feel, but a hybrid shopper should keep this on the list.

❤️ What I love

The choice of heights. I've worked around enough awkward RV bedrooms to know that an extra couple of inches can matter as much as the mattress itself. A hybrid alternative also gives you a genuinely different construction to compare, rather than three versions of the same thing.

🙈 What could be better

I'd make sure I was comparing the exact height and size I could actually use. The headline name alone doesn't tell you which configuration will work in your rig.

Bottom Line: The hybrid alternative I'd compare before making a final decision.

Wilderness RV Mattress Aspen

Wilderness RV Mattress Aspen

4.1 / 5
Check Price

Pros

  • ✓ 10-inch all-foam construction
  • ✓ Gel memory foam and support base
  • ✓ RV and custom dimensions listed
  • ✓ A straightforward option to compare

Cons

  • ✗ Had quite a bit of off-gassing/smell when unboxed. Didn't feel natural
  • ✗

⭐ Overall Rating

The all-foam option in my lineup. The Aspen gives a shopper another useful reference point: a 10-inch foam mattress with RV and custom sizing. It was a sensible alternative rather than the one that made us say, 'Let's keep this one.' I'd still include it for anyone whose first problem is an awkward bed platform.

❤️ What I love

The attention to RV dimensions. Sometimes the best feature is simply being able to get the shape your rig needs without pretending a household mattress will fit.

🙈 What could be better

I'd be especially careful about custom-size measurements and order terms. Double-check the length, width, and any unusual corners before making the order.

Bottom Line: A useful all-foam comparison, especially when an unusual RV fit is part of the decision.

Mattress Insider by Scarsdale

Mattress Insider by Scarsdale

3.9 / 5
Check Price

Pros

  • ✓ Hybrid construction with gel foam
  • ✓ Made-to-order RV sizes
  • ✓ Custom shapes for odd platforms
  • ✓ Another hybrid to compare

Cons

  • ✗ Made-to-order means longer order and delivery times
  • ✗ Lots of size and shape choices to sort through
  • ✗ Confirm current specs before ordering

⭐ Overall Rating

The made-to-order option in my lineup. The Scarsdale is a hybrid that's worth knowing about if your rig has an unusual platform shape. It was a solid bed, but it didn't give Lisa and me the same 'let's keep this one' feeling as Treeline.

❤️ What I love

The custom sizing. Radius corners and cut corners are common in RVs, and it's handy when a brand builds around that instead of making you compromise.

🙈 What could be better

I'd allow extra time and double-check every measurement, since a made-to-order bed is harder to swap if you get a number wrong.

Bottom Line: A good fit for unusual RV platforms; plan ahead and measure carefully.

Why I chose Moose RV Treeline

To recap

I went into this thinking the most technical-sounding mattress would win. It wasn't the list of layers that made the decision. It was getting into bed after a long day outside and not wishing we were sleeping at home. Treeline gave Lisa and me the comfort-and-support balance we were looking for, without making either of us feel like we'd compromised.

If your RV is your happy place but its bed isn't, Treeline is the one I'd put at the top of the list in this comparison. Measure first, choose the feel you like, and make the bedroom part of the trip you look forward to.
